Cattle– 1648
A continuation of the dry weather lifted numbers by 504 head to 1648 cattle at Inverell. There was a good quality offering of medium weight feeder steers. Weaner steers and heifers sold to dearer trends with most regular buyers attending and feeder operators were strong in their demand. Weaner steers were as much as 27c/kg better selling to restockers and the heifer portion up to 18c/kg dearer also to restocker competition. Light yearling steers to feed sold up to 17c/kg better conversely some secondary drafts sold to considerably cheaper trends. Medium weight steers sold to marginally dearer trends to 352c/kg while backgrounders pushed those categories to 338/kg. Yearling steers in excess of 480kgs liveweight were up to 37c/kg better to average 318c/kg. Light heifers to process sold to dearer trends of 24c/kg and feeders considerably dearer to average 306c/kg. Quality declined somewhat in the heavier feeder heifers to show a cheaper trend. Grown steers were dearer to make 274c/kg and the heifer portion also dearer to average 265c/kg. Medium weight cows slipped 21c/kg. Heavy cows however were slightly dearer to make up to 228c/kg.

Sheep
Yarding– 4035 Lambs– 2719 Sheep– 1316
Inverell penned 2719 lambs and 1316 grown sheep which was an extra 1078 on last sale. All buyers attended to a market where light and medium drafts of lambs sold to dearer trends. Heavy lambs also saw dearer trends where extra weight claimed a premium. Restockers also contributed with strong demand for Dorper and Merino lambs back to the paddock. Limited pens of new season lambs sold $75 to $100/head. Light lambs to processors were $15/head dearer while trade lambs were firm to a shade dearer selling to $117/head. Heavy trade crossbreds sold to $152/head and to a dearer trend.. Lambs in excess of 30kgs cwt were awarded a $12/head rise to make up to $172/head. Dorper lambs back to the paddock sold to $60/head and Merinos $24 to $44/head. Crossbred and Dorper ewes to processors $119 to 138/head. A limited penning of Merino wethers sold to 100/head.
