Cattle– 1164
Inverell penned 1164 head which was 249 more than last sale. It was a fair to good quality offering with all buyers attending although not all exporters operated. It was a varied market with an emphasis on light and medium feeder steers and heifers with both categories selling to dearer trends as did heavy feeder heifers. Light weaner steers sold to restockers at cheaper trends. Conversely the heifer drafts sold firm to marginally dearer trends to return to the paddock. Feeder competition for light weight yearling steers resulted in dearer trends to top at 350c/kg with similar trends for medium weights to be 4c/kg better. Light weight heifers to feed on sold to 3c/kg better with heavy feeder heifers considerably dearer to make 328c/kg. Light processing heifers were also dearer 208c to 250c/kg. Grown heifers to process 220c to 268c/kg. Light cows sold to cheaper trends and the heavy categories were dearer making 204c to 227c/kg. Heavy bulls to dearer trends topping at 250c/kg.

Inverell penned 1957 lambs and 1000 grown sheep which was 1478 head less than last sale. It was a very good offering of lambs particularly the heavy drafts. Not all buyers operated those who attended competed on a slightly dearer basis. Lambs to a southern store order made $65 to $85/head but only on very limited numbers. Trade lambs only marginally dearer. Heavy trades were also marginally dearer selling $111 to $127/head. Heavy lambs made to $139/head and lambs in excess of 30kg cwt topped at $165/head. These lambs were 71 kgs live weight. Light ewes sold to $48/head while medium ewes ranged $62 to $81/head and heavy crossbreds sold to $95/head. Limited Merino wethers sold to $112/head.
