Cattle - 987
There was a few more cattle yarded this week for a total of 987 head. The yarding consisted of a good supply of yearlings and there was also a fair penning of cows. The offering of young cattle consisted of several pens of well bred and well finished yearling steers and heifers suitable for backgrounders and feeders. Restocker and background buyers were active in the market resulting in yearling steers selling 20c dearer, ranging from 374c to 420c, while feeder heifers sold firm to 10c dearer depending on weight and quality, most sold from 330c to 368c and trade heifers sold to 352c/kg. There was only a few grown steers and they reach a top of 356c to process and feeder steers sold to 388c/kg. Grown heifers sold from 300c to 346c/kg. The cow market was back by 20c with 2 scores selling from 230c to 268c, while 3 score cows averaged 282c and 4 score cows ranged from 289c to 315c/kg. Restocker cows toped at 270c/kg. Heavy bulls reached a top price of 315c/kg.
Sheep
Yarding – 2122 Lambs – 1144 Sheep – 978
There was a good yarding of mutton and lambs, which included 1,144 lambs. Quality of the lambs was good with several consignments supplementary fed, and there was a large percentage of heavy trade and extra heavy lambs offered. Competition was strong with trade lambs selling from $146 to $187 while heavy trade weights ranged from $189 to $235/head. Heavy and extra heavy lambs sold from $248 to $262/head. Dorper lambs reached a top price of $230. Hoggets toped at $196/head. There as a good yarding of mutton which consisted of increased numbers of wethers. Demand was keener than the previous sale with light ewes selling from $108 to $155, while heavy ewes sold from $150 to $165/head. Wethers $140 to $172/head.
